Five of My Favorite Ideas from Convention

.

All of my clients brought back some great ideas from their company's annual Convention.  Here are five of my favorites:

1. Don't be afraid to recruit your best customers

Yes, it's painful in the short-term, but in the long-run, you're going to earn a lot more from a productive downline than a productive customer.

2. Give your customers catalogs

Yes, they cost money.  Consider it a cost of doing business.  Your company's catalog is your best promotional tool.  Put it into as many hands as possible.  Just don't forget to call everyone you give a copy to (see #4).

3. If it doesn't work the first time, don't give up!

Lot's of things don't work the first time.  It doesn't mean they're bad ideas.  Stick with it.  Do it enough times to make an educated decision before you drop it.

4. Follow-up, follow-up, follow-up!

Sales are not made on the first contact.  They're made on the third, fourth, fifth contact, etc.  Keep following up.  The more you do, the more sales and downline you'll have.

5. Phone your downline

Are you worried about retention?  Nothing keeps a downline active and productive like the knowledge that someone else cares enough to pay attention to what they're doing.  Calling your downline also allows you to deal with any problems they're having before they become unwieldy.

The Problem with AOL

Many of you know I'm not a fan of using AOL for your stamping business e-mail.  The reasons are too numerous to list here.  Foremost among them, the fact that you're probably not receiving a surprisingly high percentage of your e-mail.

Since I'm starting to sound like a broken record, I thought I'd direct you to someone else's comments.

Angela Hoy runs WritersWeekly.com, a very popular e-zine for freelance writers.  She recently posted a fantastic article on her blog (AngelaHoy.com) about how AOL can really hurt a small business.  She also has some excellent links to other revealing articles about AOL.

The best thing you can do is register your own domain name and set up your own personal e-mail address.

If you don't want to do that, you can still get a business e-mail address on my domain.

Trillion Dollar Moms -

Marketing to a New Generation of Mothers

by Maria T. Bailey and Bonnie W. Ulman

Mothers are America's most powerful consumers.  They make purchases totaling $1.7 trillion (yes, trillion) per year.  Obviously, as a stamping business owner, you would like a piece of that pie.

The problem is, they're an ever-evolving group.  Marketing strategies that worked last year may not work this year.  So, how do you reach them?

This book looks at the latest research and figures, and offers lots of great suggestions about how to market to moms in your neighborhood and around the country.

If you're looking for some new ideas, you may want to pick up a copy.

Stamping Business Q&A

How Do I Get More Bookings

At My Workshops/ Gatherings?

The answer to this is simple... ASK!

First, make sure you ask each workshop/gathering attendee if they would like to book their own event.

Do this face-to-face and one-on-one!  It's not enough to just say it to the group.

Have a copy of your calendar in front of both of you when you do and point out available dates.

To really maximize your additional bookings, make sure to follow up with each attendee by phone two to three weeks after the event.  Check in to make sure everything was OK with their event order, and while you have them on the phone...ask if they'd like to book their own!

You will be amazed at how much more business you find in this follow-up call!

(If there's a question you'd like answered, feel free to

send me an e-mail)

Testimonials...

Being a demo 'supported my habit.'  Now, I am ready (as is my husband) to make this a career.  After reading your book, I know that is possible.

- JC, Wisconsin

I used to be afraid to talk to people about joining the business.  Then I listened to your 'Recruiting 101' CD.  It really clicked!  Now, I don't hesitate to share the opportunity and I've already recruited 3 people this month!
