Without question, one of the biggest keys to success in any stamping business is a constant influx of new customers.  The more customers you have, the easier it is to book your workshops, fill your classes, sell your product and recruit new downline.

 

Unfortunately, most stamping business owners have not come close to reaching their potential customer base.  Often, they start with a core group of friends and family, and rely on word-of-mouth to get new customers.

 

The problem is, word-of mouth is a downward spiral.  At some point, you will begin to lose customers faster than word-of-mouth can replace them.  Also, if you recruit your best customers, chances are they're going to take large numbers of their friends with them.

 

It may not be obvious now, but if your primary (or only) form of marketing is word-of-mouth, you are in that downward spiral, and, sooner or later, you will start to see signs of a dwindling customer base.

 

What are some of the signs of a dwindling customer base?

  • Workshops are harder to book

  • Classes are harder to fill

  • Less attendance and sales at workshops and other events

  • Things that used to work are no longer working

How do you deal with this situation?  Use marketing and advertising to attract strangers to your business!

 

Take a look at this illustration:

 

 

The yellow circle represents everyone you know - friends, family, colleagues, etc.

The red circle represents everyone who knows someone who knows you.

The blue circle represents everyone else.

 

If you're relying on word-of-mouth marketing, you're only reaching the red and yellow circles.  As you can see, that's a pretty small percentage of the whole.  However, if you utilize other forms of marketing and advertising, you're going to reach everyone in the blue circle!  All of the strangers who don't know you or anyone you know.  And THAT is a much larger group!

 

Ask yourself... what would your business look like if you had 50 more customers?  100 more?  200 more?  An effective marketing and advertising plan can make those numbers a reality... AND it doesn't have to cost much, if anything to do itThere are plenty of ways to get free or low-cost marketing and advertising that you may not know about.
